What is a Bluetooth (BLE) beacon?

When we usually locate our mobile phones, we usually use satellite positioning methods, such as Beidou or GPS. It is well known that satellite positioning is usually difficult to work in underground parking lots and tunnels, but some applications can locate objects indoors, and can perform navigation or object search based on indoor positioning. Some positioning systems use BLE Bluetooth beacon solutions.

Indoor Positioning

Working principle: Bluetooth beacons send Bluetooth signals containing their own IDs and signal strength values through Bluetooth communication. After the mobile device receives the signal, it calculates the distance to the device based on the signal strength value, and combines multiple location information to accurately calculate the location of the device.

BLE beacons are small, multi-functional, low-power Bluetooth transmitters that can be detected by wireless devices such as smartphones that support BLE. Beacons can be deployed in fixed locations, such as walls or ceilings, or placed on mobile assets to provide location references for indoor positioning applications, and can quickly determine the location of mobile devices. Allow anyone to interact with BLE-enabled applications using smartphones or other embedded devices. BLE beacons can be used to find the location of a device and transmit relevant data, or provide relevant information about the user, so that the user's status can be understood at any time.

Beacons broadcast signals periodically and can be detected by other BLE-enabled devices. Location data from Bluetooth beacons is collected, stored or analyzed by BLE devices, and can also be sent to servers for data accumulation. On this basis, various location-aware applications can be supported and even specific actions can be triggered.

Beacons come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit different hardware. Many beacons have long-lasting built-in batteries that can run for many years, or can be powered by connections such as USB. Compared with other RF technologies, BLE technology is generally cheaper to produce and has a high market penetration rate, so small, low-cost, and low-maintenance hardware options can be customized to meet your unique needs. Some beacons can not only communicate via BLE, but also combine other technologies such as accelerometers or temperature sensors to develop rich application scenarios.

The Bluetooth beacon hardware products developed by Shengrun Technology support 5.3 and below protocols, are small in size and low in power consumption, and are easy to deploy in various locations. They can be powered by batteries or power supplies. The operating temperature adaptability range is wide, and it can work normally at -30-80℃, with a sensitivity of up to -97dbm. It can also support remote one-key upgrades to avoid the cost of traditional upgrade methods.
